The application presents a robust video and music playback experience, featuring advanced hardware acceleration and comprehensive subtitle support. Its hardware acceleration capabilities are enhanced via the new HW+ decoder, enabling smoother playback across a broader range of videos. MX Player distinguishes itself as the first Android video player supporting multi-core decoding, with performance improvements demonstrated to be up to 70% higher on multi-core devices compared to single-core alternatives.

User interaction is optimized through intuitive gestures such as pinch-to-zoom, zoom, and pan functionalities, which can be conveniently toggled via options. Subtitle navigation is made more accessible with gesture controls: scrolling forward or backward to browse through text, moving text vertically, and adjusting size through zoom in/out gestures. The app also offers privacy features like a dedicated Privacy Folder to hide sensitive videos securely, along with a Kids Lock mode that allows children to enjoy videos without risking accidental access to calls or other applications.

The application supports a variety of subtitle formats including DVD, DVB, SSA/ASS (with full styling), SAMI (with Ruby tag support), SubRip (.srt), MicroDVD (.sub), VobSub (.sub/.idx), SubViewer 2.0 (.sub), MPL2 (.mpl), TMPlayer (.txt), Teletext, PJS (.pjs), and WebVTT (.vtt). This extensive compatibility ensures users can enjoy subtitles for a wide array of media sources.

Permissions required by the app include reading and writing external storage for media file management, location access for nearby friend discovery, network and Wi-Fi status for updates and license verification, Bluetooth connection stability, camera access for QR code scanning, internet connectivity for streaming, vibration control feedback, wake lock to prevent sleep during playback, background process management, secure screen lock control during Kids Lock activation, key blocking when Kids Lock is enabled, overlay permissions for UI control during input blocking, and system alert permissions to manage key input restrictions.
